I N T R O D U C T I O N
No two artists take the same road on their individual journeys toward their artistic destinations. Although many artists might employ a mapped-out approach, some artists simply wing it by taking an accidental one. The latter is true in the artistic journey of Noel Carol.
Left Unread is a true story of an eight-year-old boy with wild dreams, the primary one being that of becoming a rock star. While many boys of his age grow up dreaming of becoming a fireman or perhaps even of becoming a professional athlete, neither of those ambitions ever became part of Noel’s dreams, although he loved playing hockey as a young boy. Nonetheless, both his heart and mind had already become focused on singing and playing guitar.
But life doesn’t necessarily unfold in the manner that a child might perceive it unfolding. Anything could happen along the way that might cause his journey to go off course. Yeah, life
happens, and circumstances can always get in the way. A financial crisis could befall him, leaving him with nothing but a cupful of paperclips, pennies and dust to his name. He could end up meeting a girl, falling so in love one day and so out of love the next. Emotional obstacles could appear out of nowhere, causing him to swerve off the road and crash into such a deep ravine of hopelessness that he finds himself at the point of no return. Poor life choices could also lead to unwanted delays or even prevent him from continuing with his journey altogether at times.
Had Noel known in advance that what was just described was precisely what he’d be facing in the years and decades to come, would he still have taken the journey? Well, perhaps he innately knew that times can be tough when you’re chasin’ a dream and that he’d quite likely be takin’ the back roads, if you know what I mean.
But regardless of whether he might have known in advance that he could possibly end up chasing this elusive dream of his, he has always believed in his heart that the facts don’t count ‘long as you have a dream.
Yes, this is a tell-all story of hard times meeting strength of character. It’s one of ridiculous failures meeting unimaginable successes. It’s an incredible story about what can inevitably happen when accidental genius encounters sheer stupidity. It’s a genuine narrative of truth and reality confronting lies and deception. This is a humbling tale of narcissistic addictions clashing with the humility of self-discovery. It’s a bewildering, yet, touching and heartfelt account of one’s unrelenting challenge to find the necessary courage from deep within to continue fighting to overcome the fears that develop when faced with overwhelming adversity. And as if that weren’t enough, it’s also a candid story of malevolent forces doing everything in their power to thwart an inner spiritual transformation from unfolding.
But the irony is this: Life’s circumstances, including dealing with poor life choices, emotional stress, burnout, demonic attacks, abject poverty, homelessness, broken dreams, and broken hearts, can also become the impetus that fuels the driving force within one’s belly to, and I quote, “not give up, no matter what gets thrown my way.”
